On August 30, 1957, Bishop Bernard J. Topel announced the construction of a new parish in North Spokane with Fr. Paul Wenning as it's pastor. Groundbreaking occured approximately 6 months later on March 2, 1958 for construction of a multi-purpose structure. It included a temporary church on the top floor (later to be used as a gymnasium for the school) and a cafeteria and social hall on the lower level. It wasn't until March of 1962 that the first four school classrooms and a library were completed. Sometime later, the school building was doubled in size with the addition of 4 more classroom and a multi-purpose room that has since served as a staff room, meeting room, library, and most recently, a computer lab.

A new pastor was assigned in 1977--Fr. Arnold Schoffelmeer. Serving as parochial vicars under him were: Fr. Roy Floch (1977-1979), Fr. Joe Bell (1979-1981), Fr. Michael Alsopp (1982-1984), and Fr. Joachim Hein (1985-1986). St. Thomas More has also been blessed historically with the placement of several deacons: Deacon Gerry McKenzie (1982-1984), Deacon John Sicilia (1987-1997), Deacon Doug Banks (2005-present), and Deacon Tom Heavey (2012-present).

On December 11, 1987, our community celebrated the long-awaited dedication of our new church and chapel with a Solemn Blessing Mass concelebrated with Bishop Lawrence Welsh and Fr. Schoffelmeer. When Fr. Schoffelmeer retired in 1992, we received Msgr. John Steiner as our new pastor. Arriving at the same time was a new parochial vicar, Fr. Darrin Connell (1992-1994). In 1995, "retired" priest, Fr. John Rompa, joined Msgr. John "just to help out for a while" and ended up blessing our parish community until 2003!

In March of 1997, a building committee was established to oversee the planning of our Parish Activity Community Center, or PACC. 1997 also brough with it the arrival Don McKenzie, son of our former deacon, as Pastoral Associate (1997-2002). In February of 1999, we celebrated the dedication of a new baptismal font placed in the narthex. In 2000, Fr. Jose Millan (2000-2002) joined our community immediately following his ordination.

April 8, 2001 was the groundbreaking day for our new PACC, and the upper level was completed by early December--just in time to help us celebrate the holidays, but it wasn't until February 3 of the following year that we were able to have the formal dedication ceremony with Bishop William Skylstad.

After 10 years of service, it was time to say goodbye to Msgr. Steiner and hello to Abbot Adrian Parcher as our new pastor. During the Abbot's tenure, new parish offices were built in the lower level of the PACC and the former parish offices/rectory were transformed into a preschool/child care center. Opening in the fall of 2004, the Play And Learn Center (PAL Center) opened it's doors. In 2005, we received our fifth pastor, Fr. Len Forsmann and parochial vicar, Fr. Peter Amah (2005-2007). Sadly, Fr. Len was only with us for about 1 and a half years before falling severely ill. He died on January 20, 2007. At that time, Bishop Skylstad named Deacon Doug Banks as the Parish Administrator as we wouldn't be able to receive a new pastor until the new assignments were made in the summer.

August 1, 2007 was the first day for pastor Msgr. Pedro Ramirez and parochial vicar, Fr. James Peak. Although they were new to the scene, Msgr. Pedro and Fr. Jimmy helped the community to celebrate it's 50th anniversary on September 15, 2007, with the dedication of our "Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit" fountain which greets all just before they enter our doors.

In 2007, construction took place in the church to help support the installation of pipes for the organ. Thanks to donors and the hard work of our music director, John Oss, the pipe organ now fills our sanctuary with beautiful music at our liturgies. In September of 2008, the final room of the lower level of the PACC was completed, providing a library for the school students and a medium-sized conference room for community use. Since then, St. Thomas More has been blessed with the placement of several parochial vicars: Fr. David Kuttner (2009-2010), Fr. Luta Nsubuga (2010-2011), Fr. Jason Hiner (2011-2014), Fr. Richard Semple (2014-2015), and Fr. David Kruse (2015-2017). When Msgr. Pedro moved to St. Patrick Parish in Pasco, Fr. Richard Poole came to us in November 2013. St. Thomas More began doing administration work for St. Patrick Parish (Spokane) in July 2015. When Fr. Poole went back to the Air Force to be a military chaplain in October 2016, Msgr. Robert Pearson took over as pastor.  Fr Pat Kerst was named Pastor in July 2017.
